Gardening Club
Hello everyone, and welcome to the Gardeners’ Club web page.
Our Club is an informal and friendly group which meets on the first Wednesday of most months at 7.30pm in the Village Hall.
Our activities include informative talks on various gardening subjects, and problems we encounter. In the Summer and Winter
we have social evenings. Each Spring there is an informal Spring Show, where all the members are asked to judge the exhibits.
Every August the Club hosts the ‘Annual Village Show’. It is open to all the villagers, members or not, and the children.
All the evening meetings include refreshments of tea, coffee and biscuits, for a small charge. There is also a raffle.
The Annual Subscription is £12.00.
Visitors are welcome, and pay £3.00 each evening. There is free entry for friends and guests on their first visit.
We hope to see you soon. If you are new to the village it is a great way to meet new people.

Annual Village Show 2025

The 47th Annual Show took place on Saturday 9 August in the Village Hall, organised by the Child Okeford Gardeners’ Club
and ably assisted by many volunteers. Despite the challenging growing conditions this year, we had an excellent range of
exhibits in the vegetable and fruit classes, as well as some beautiful displays in the floral section. Baking and preserves proved
a challenge for the judge as the standard was so high (particularly preserves) while the photography class attracted many
high-quality images and the ‘Made by Me’/craft section was original and eye-catching. The number of entrants was up
compared to last year and although total entries were slightly down, we were delighted to welcome several first-time exhibitors.
Tim Cotton, Chair of Child Okeford Parish Council, was the Visitor of the Day and had the difficult task of selecting a standout
exhibit. His choice-a magnificent display of onions-was a popular one, having already caught the eye of many visitors. Thank
you to all entrants for your enthusiasm, to the show stewards, to those who provided refreshments and to the volunteers who
made such light work of setting-up and taking down the show. We look forward to seeing everyone again next year at the 48th
Show. Save the Day – Saturday 8 August 2026!
