QEII Playing Field Plans

Things are happening on the playing fields

As part of our contribution to Nature Recovery Dorset a biodiversity plan was written and is nearing completion thanks to a lot of work by volunteers. This work is mostly confined to the lower end of the field. This area used to be the football pitch but it became unsuitable for sport because of tree roots and too wet in winter. A path has been created through the trees. Owl boxes have been installed. Wild flowers sown thanks to a grant from Wessex Water Environment Fund. 130 tree saplings have been donated by The Woodland Trust and in conjunction with St Nicholas school a tree planting event is provisionally booked for 16th November.

A village survey back in 2016 and a questionnaire at Hey Day provided ample evidence that a bike pump track would be a popular addition to the playing field. The parish council as the trustee of the QEII playing fields would like to support that and it is actively exploring funding options. If there are any farmers, builders or landscapers who could donate top soil then please get in touch ([email protected]) as that would reduce the cost significantly.
