QEII PLAYING FIELDS

Things are definitely happening at the rec – now known as the QEII
playing fields!

Children are enjoying the new 5 a side goals and we have an 11 a side
team keen to play next year. This means we need to get the main pitch
up to speed. Are there any retired or budding groundsmen out there
ready to offer advice or help?

Thanks to a donation from Hey Day we have purchased 8 extra picnic
benches second hand from Dorset Bench Hire. 4 of these are in storage
for next summer but 4 are ready to use now if the weather allows.
It was planned to lay down a pétanque court and a croquet lawn in
October but the heavy rain meant the machinery would cause more
harm than good and unfortunately we have had to postpone this until
the spring. The Parish Council as trustees of the QEII playing field
charitable trust would like to thank Hey Day once again for dedicating
the funds for the petanque court, Gill Fuglesang for her fund raising to
pay for the croquet lawn turf and Dave Bennett of Greenhaven
Landscapes for providing his expertise and machinery.

The upper end of the field near the road will be looking lovely in the
spring, thanks to the Gardening Club who are donating and planting
spring bulbs. The roadside hedge is due to be lowered over the winter
giving much better views of the field. New signs for the Community
Centre and the field will be arriving soon.

Plans to rewild an area along the southern edge of the ground are being
developed with the help of the Dorset Tree Project. Is there anyone in
the village who understands or is prepared to run a BIOBLITZ https://
nbn.org.uk? These can be a fun community event for all ages to help
identify as many species of plants, animals, fungi as possible before we
make changes.

Help with these ground improvements would be really welcome. If you
feel encouraged to get involved in any way, we would love to hear from
you. Let us know by emailing the Parish Clerk [email protected]
